campion-bearsOn September 21, 2013, the Edmund Campion Bears won the Sheridan College High School Tournament Championship.

The Bears, from Brampton, ON defeated the Oakwood Barons of Toronto, ON by a decisive score of 53-33.

Campion was led in scoring by Shay Colley, who scored all 13 of her points in the First Half. Colley, the 2014 standout dominated the pace of the game right from the onset, making light work of her opponents by forcing turnovers and making steals on the defensive end, and getting to the rim almost at will at the other.

Campion’s Faith Brown was a major beneficiary of Colley’s work to the tune of 10 points as she made the most of Colley’s football passes that had her sprung. A continually improving Savanna Hamilton added 7 for the champions. Hamilton has added a much more offensive minded confidence about her to go along with her length, and it resulted in an additional weapon for the Bears, and another problem for their opponents.

Freshman Aiden Rainford made a compelling case for Oakwood with a game high 17 points in her team’s loosing cause. Keep an eye on her and her tremendous upside in the paint going forward, as her size and mobility create good opportunities in the offensive end. Watch out as she continues to develop confidence and refines her game.

Colley received Tournament MVP honours, while teammate Hamilton received a nod as Tournament All-Star. For the Barons, Rainford was honoured for her effort throughout her games, while Oakwood teammate, Bridgette Sharp also received a Tournament All-Star designation.

Sydney Williams of Gonzaga picked up the final Tournament All-Star acknowledgement.
