Chelayne BaileyOn March 2, 2016, Chelayne Bailey (5’7″, PG, Pickering HS/Toronto Matrix, 2016) of Ajax, ON committed to Syracuse University of NCAA’s ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference).

After applying her talents with the Blue Star Ontario U17s last summer, which included stops at the USJN Premier Invitational in Cincinnati, Nike Chicago and the USJN Nationals in Washington DC, Bailey entered into the high school season on a mission. Her mission was realized as playing an instrumental part in leading her Pickering Trojans high school team to a LOSSA region Championship and a birth in the Ontario provincial Championships (OFSAA). Although the Trojans fell short of winning a provincial title, Bailey led her team in scoring on several occasions. Since the end of the high school season, Bailey has been playing with the Toronto Matrix travel team, deciding to forego traditional rep team play.

As a Point Guard, Bailey is a dynamic defender that uses good timing when committed to turning her opponents over and moves very well laterally, forcing ball handlers to have to rethink driving attempts. Although she’s on the small size in stature, she does not back down easily and with her heart, she is routinely found sacrificing her body in order to make the best play possible for her team.

Bailey, who has represented her country on more than one occasion on the Canadian National basketball team will report to the Syracuse Orange upon completion of this high school year.
