Raziel Guinto, Macaela Crone

Louisiana Tech of NCAA Conference USA, has secured commitments from two Canadians for the Fall of 2017.

Macaela Crone (3-stars, 6’1”, F, A.E. Peacock) of Moose Jaw, SK and Raziel Guinto (2.5-stars, 5’5”, PG, Sisler) of Winnipeg, MB have both accepted scholarship offers from the Lady Techsters, who will be attending school on campuses located in Ruston, LA in the northern portion of the state of Louisiana.

Both players represented their province in the U17 Canadian Nationals that took place in Regina, SK.

Crone, who has the ability to get hot when shooting from long range, scored an event high of 15 points in Team Saskatchewan’s win over Nova Scotia, while also pulling in 12 rebounds and 7 assists. She also double-doubled in semi-final action against Team Quebec, scoring 11 and collecting 13 rebounds despite her team dropping a 4 point loss.

Guinto is a gutsy PG that instinctlively keeps her dribble alive and finds ways to make something out of nothing all. She averaged 18 points per game throughout the event for Team Manitoba, for whom she was a starter. She amassed a 17-point performance against Team Ontario on 5-8 shooting from behind the 3-point line, while also earning 5 steals in the semi-finals. Guinto faced off against Crone’s Team Saskatchewan twice in the July 2016 event, scoring 28 points in their opening game of the tournament and 22 points in the Bonze medal game, to which her Manitoba squad had to settle for fourth place.

The Lady Techsters finished with a record of 9-9 in Conference USA play last season.
