oceana hamiltonOn August 7, 2013, Oceana Hamilton (6’4″, P, Edmund Campion) of Brampton, ON decided to sign an LOI to attend the University of Alabama out of the Class of 2013.

Although the decision may have come a little bit later on in the game that she might have expected, the right opportunity has now presented itself, and Hamilton believes that all of the pieces are in place for a great post secondary experience on and off the court.

“I feel great about my decision”, she said. “I really enjoyed my visit on campus.”

One of the main reasons for her choice? Crimson Tide Head Coach, Kristy Curry. Curry has been busy bolstering up Alabama’s roster with new recruits in the short period of time since she took on the role as Head Coach back on May 16.

“The main reason why I chose Alabama was because of Head Coach, Kristy Curry”, she said revealing her motive after being the subject of Curry’s care and commitment to her in the process. “Not just her, but the Assistant Coaches as well are so supportive. It was also the rest of the school as well that I found such a great place to be.”

Over the last year, she has been able to improve on her mobility, her post game and is a much more consistent shooter from 5-10 feet away from the basket. Those improvements coupled with her size and and reach, translated very nicely when she was a significant piece to a Blues JUEL team that claimed second place at the Boo Williams tournament back in April. And is sure to factor into how she feels she will be able to contribute to Alabama’s style of play.

“I feel that I will be able to contribute in several ways. [Coach Curry] really likes versatile bigs. I hope to have the chance to show off all of the different sides of me and my game.”

She lists her family as the direction to where she would like to send the lions’ share of her thanks and appreciation for sticking by her through her journey. More specifically she lists her father as a big inspiration and her mother for always being there. She also wanted to show appreciation for her time with A-Game, for providing her with the on court opportunities she has been given.

Hamilton had also considered offers from Virginia Commonwealth, Long Beach and Seton Hall before settling in on the University of Alabama, where she will be taking courses that will allow her to pursue a career in Advertising.

Hamilton, who attended high school at Sir Edmund Campion in Brampton, ON, will begin her Crimson Tide journey within the next couple of weeks, when she will be situating herself on Alabama’s campus.
