Ravens Swoop To Claim 3 Commits For 2012

On December 5, 2012, the Carleton Ravens announced that 3 players have committed to join them in the Ravens’ Nest in Ottawa, ON next September.

Just as, the Ravens are getting the job done on the court, and are currently the number 2 ranked team in Canada, they continue to get the job done off the court as well with their committments from Lindsay Kavanagh (6’2″, F, Sacred Heart), Claire Abbott (5’7″, G, Glebe) and Lindsay Shotbolt (6’0″, G/F, Bill Crothers).

Carleton Head Coach Taffe Charles, who since his return to the Ravens Women program in 2007 has seen a continued improvement year after year, was beaming with his latest haul.  “We’re really pleased to get these recruits.  They will be great additions to our program.”

Taffe sees Lindsay Kavanagh from Stittsville, ON as the type of player that plays big for her size.  “She is a mobile 6’2″ yet still projects to be a 4.”  Not lost on this particular recruit despite how big she plays and how well she moves, is how much of a pleasure she will be to coach once next fall rolls around.  Taffe said “Lindsay has a good personality and I feel that she is someone that will be great to work with.”

Claire Abbott will remain in her current city with her committment to play with the Ravens next year.  The native of Yukon, who had relocated Ottawa, helped guide the Glebe Gryphons to a 2011 Ontario High School Championship (OFSAA) birth.  Abbott will be looking to add a scoring touch from the Guard position next season.  “She shoots the ball really well”, said Taffe.  ” I can really see Claire being a good player.”

In what may be considered the gem of this trio, Lindsay Shotbolt brings a solid frame and skills that may already been seen as University ready.  “Lindsay could probably play right away”, Taffe said of this Guard/Forward that was courted by many schools both north and south of the border.  He went on to say that Shotbolt may have the intagibles that coaches long for by one of their team members in the locker room.  “She’s someone that can carry a team.  She has good leadership qualities and I can see her leading the team when the time comes.”

This Head Coach is clearly pleased with how he will look to replenish the the Carleton Ravens’ squad for 2012.  But, just as a Head Coach’s work is never done, it appears as though he still has a couple more tricks up his sleeve. “Were not done yet,” Taffe assured, “we have a few more things that we’re working on right now.”
