The 2015 edition of the Canadian National Championships saw Team Ontario go undefeated in making a clear statement that they were the superior team throughout the U15 tournament that took place in Edmonton, AB.

In their Gold Medal performance, Team Ontario defeated their provincial neighbors, Team Quebec, by a score of 65-49. A telltale indicator in the game for the Gold Medalists, was their ability to earn additional looks on in Team Quebec’s end by winning the offensive rebounding battle by a 16-9 margin, as they corralled 41 total rebounds to Quebec’s 28.

Eventual tournament MVP, Laeticia Amihere scored a game high 19 points, while racking up 8 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field in the winning cause. Lauren Boers’ 10 points also bolstered Team Ontario effort.

Team Quebec answered with Roxane Makolo’s big 18 point, 7 rebounds and 5 steal in the loss. Makolo’s shot 73% from the field in the loosing effort to go along with teammate Sarah TeBiasu’s 15 point, 4 rebound, 4 assist contribution that unfortunately was only good enough for Silver.

Team Ontario U15s, who never trailed in the game and led by as much as 25, improved on last year’s Silver Medal performance, where they lost in the Finals to Team Saskatchewan.

In the Bronze Medal game, Team Manitoba overcame deficits as much as 7 in their see saw battle against Team New Brunswick.  In the end, Team Manitoba grabbed the lead with a little over 2:30 left to play in the fourth quarter, a lead they would keep by growing to 8, on their way to a 53-45 win.  Manitoba was led by Niya Becker‘s 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals, while New Brunswick was led by Sandy Saunders’ 15 points and 7 rebounds.
