Carlie Nugent (5’11”, Wing, Bill Crothers, 2013) of Richmond Hill, ON has made the commitment to attend Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, NS in the Fall of 2013.

Nugent is an accurate shooter that can stretch the defense out beyond the 3-point line. She runs the floor well and has a good reach to corral rebounds that come her way. She is the consummate teammate that is well liked in any setting and is sure to fit right in with the Huskies when the time comes.

Saint Mary’s Huskies Head Coach, Scott Munro was happy with being able to land a talent like Nugent.

“I am very excited about Carlie’s commitment to join our program here at Saint Mary’s. Carlie definitely fits the mold of our current team and will help us move forward in the coming years,” said Munroe. “Carlie is an extremely competitive player who loves to compete and win. She shoots the basketball very well and is a solid defender and rebounder for her size.”

The Huskies are currently atop the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) region, with an unblemished 7-0 record and are looking to improve upon last season’s AUS third place finish. They are now sporting a ranking of fourth in the CIS and claim the country’s leading scorer in Justine Colley who is averaging 27 points per game.

Regardless of how well things are going for them now, they will be looking to avail themselves of Nugent’s potential.

“Carlie will provide us with great depth on the wing. On top of all that, Carlie is a great person and I believe she will be one of the top CIS players to come out of Ontario this year. We look forward to her joining our program.”

Until Nugent fully joins the Huskies, she will be continuing to refine her play with the North Toronto in the JUEL league this Winter/Spring and finishing up her studies at Bill Crothers High School in Markham, ON.
