2013 15U Canadian Girls National Championships
Team Ontario completed an undefeated tournament by knocking off last year’s Champions, Team Quebec, by a score of 68-39.
Led by steady Point Guard and tournament MVP, Kendra VanLeeuwen, the Ontarians never trailed in the Gold Medal match jumping out to a 22-7 1st Quarter cushion and never looked back.
Ontario capitalized on Quebec’s 21 Turnovers, turning them into 22 points, while Quebec was only able to take advantage of Ontario’s Turnovers throughout the game to the tune of 2 points.
Points in the Paint in the Gold Medal game also told a story. Ontario more than doubled Quebec’s output, by a 40-16 margin as they took advantage of their size and ability.
Besides VanLeeuwen’s contributing of 11 points, Ontario received solid scoring from Mikaela Brewer’s 17 points, and Hailey Brown’s 15 points and 7 rebounds.
In the Bronze Medal game, Nova Scotia defeated Saskatchewan by a score of 59-50. Jasmine Cain scored 13 points in the win for Nova Scotia, to go along fellow Scotian Tykeia Beals who added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Saskatchewan saw 10 point contributions from Ella Johnson, Dayna Pearce and Lauryn Prokop.
After the Gold Medal game and award ceremony, the individual awards for the Canadian National Championships were handed out after the week long event.
