Transway’s Team Effort Earns Second Win Of Season

On March 3, 2012, in Brampton, Ontario, a well balanced attack from Hamilton Transway saw them earn their second win of the JUEL season with a 56-53 win over the Oakville Venom.

Despite the win, Transway had no players in double digits. But, as a sign of the shooting team that they are they found success with the long ball. Team connected on six 3-pointers collectively, including 2 from Siobhan Manning (5’8″, G, 2012).

The Venom were without the services of one of their key players in McKenzie Sigurdson (5’7″, G, 2013). Sigurdson’s ability to drive to the basket and earn key scores in traffic had been a key weapon for the Venom in previous games. Sarah Traynor (5’4″, G, 2013) picked the lion’s share of Sigurdson’s responsibilities, and did well primarily creating for others and even draining two 3-pointers of her own and scoring 10 points throughout the game. Her long athletic teammate, Saicha Grant-Allen (6’4″, F, 2013), pounded the ball inside for 10 points of her own. On the defensive end her very long reach rejected shot after shot and altered many more.

Transway was also missing a key piece of their puzzle as well. Guard Emily Hanaka (5’8, G, 2012), who scored 14 points in their previous game, did not play.

The win for Transway, was their second in a row after dropping their first seven to start the season. The Oakville Venom drop to 6-3 after the loss.
