On March 10, 2012, the South Kamloops Titans defeated the York House Tigers by a score of 65-61, to claim the British Columbia (BC) AAA Girls’ Provincial title.

The Titan’s Abby Grinberg was named Player of the Final Game after scoring 27, including three 3-pointers to go along with 11 rebounds.  Her Finals totals far exceeded her tournament scoring average of 12.25 points per game.   Emma Wolfram also contributed in a big way for South Kamloops, scoring 11 points and collecting 17 rebounds in the Finals win.

The Tigers’ Alisha Roberts, a Pepperdine commit, averaged 17.5 ppg throughout the tournament, and scored 15 in the Gold medal game while Guard Cherub Lum scored 13 points and added 5 rebounds to go along with 4 assists. The Tigers also saw sizable contributions in the Finals from Laura Baker (12pts, 7rebs), Carmalitta Robertson (10pts, 10rebs) and Jasprit Nijjar (3pts, 14rebs).

This was York House’s first complete season playing at the Girls AAA level. The Tigers had made the jump from the AA level where they had made the finals for the past 7 years in a row, winning four titles in the process.

South Kamloops’ Wolfram was named the Most Valuable Player and Top Defensive Player of the Provincial Tournament. Throughout the tournament, she averaged a very solid 16.5 points and 17.75 rebounds.

Although this is their first Provincial title in close to 50 years, South Kamloops appeared poised to be contenders for years to come.  Although Grinberg is in her final year, Wolfram and Maya Olynyk (11.25ppg, 6.5rpg) will be returning next year.  Also, highlighting the depths of talent at South Kamloops is their Junior team, who were Silver medalists this weekend in BC’s Junior Provincial Finals.
