Taneesha Greaves (5’8″, PG, Oak Hill Academy) has decided to reclassify and commit to the University of South Dakota for this coming school year, rather than return for a fifth year as she had recently planned.

I selected the University of South Dakota for a lot of reasons,” said Greaves. “The most important one is Coach Amy Williams!  Her passion for basketball is crazy.  I feel like our team will benefit so much just from her energy, and her strong desire for success.  Also South Dakota is close to home. I can’t wait for my family to come up and watch me play!

Greaves is an extremely hard worker and brings great skill to her position.  She certainly raised eyebrows when she first decided to go the U.S. prep school route and attend Mouth Of Wilson’s, Oak Hill Academy back in the Fall of 2010.  It was a move that not many Canadian Girls decide to take.  But, for this former Glenlawn Lion (Winnipeg, MB), it was a move that created opportunities for outcomes such as this.

Going to Oak Hill helped a lot in terms of recruiting, I got a lot of exposure.  Coaches were always at our practices, games and tournaments.

Not only did she attend Oak Hill for two school years, she was very appreciative and made the best of the time she had there.

I was very blessed to be trusted as the starting PG at Oak Hill for the two years I attended there.

She had to rely on those blessings as this scholarship opportunity almost didn’t happen.  Greaves has been battling through the past couple seasons with nagging injuries that had kept her out of major chunks of her last two years of her high school seasons.  But, when on the court, she had been impressive enough to raise many eyebrows.  Impressive enough to earn an invite to play on the Candian National Cadette team in the summer of 2010.  Impressive enough to earn herself a starting position with the famed Oak Hill Warriors. Impressive enough to earn this scholarship, which is an chance she feels optimistic that with some TLC, she will be ready to take charge of when ready to go with the USD Coyotes.

My health is great! I retore my ACL and will go for my second surgery in the fall. Besides that I feel great, Im working out, rehabbing to prepare for my surgery and loving life!

Although Greaves had lots of interest, she had a soft spot for USD, while also strongly considering St. John’s before their then Head Coach, Kim Barnes Arico, decided to leave for the Head Coaching position with the Michigan Wolverines.

To sum it all up, I am thrilled to be offered a full ride to play the game I love at a great school, with great academics!
