On April 30, 2014 Bridget Carleton (6’2”, W, John McGregor, 2015) of Chatham, ON gave her verbal commitment to attend Iowa State University in the Fall of 2015.

“I felt like Iowa State was the best overall fit for me,” said Carleton about her decision to attend the Big 12 Conference school. “I just felt very comfortable and welcomed by everyone while I was there.”

The commitment to the Cyclones, comes on the heels of a very good showing this past weekend playing at the ASGR Deep South Tournament, where she played with her London Ramblers rep team.

Carleton was among the more popular players among perspective college coaches there, enamored by her versatility. The high school Junior is able to play a number of positions very well. In her ability to play positions 1 through 4, she possesses the dribbling, decision making and scoring ability of a Guard which is extremely rare for someone in 6’2” frame. With her great size, she is able to score the ball in a variety of ways including creating off the dribble, pulling up or taking the ball to the basket. If necessary, she is also a very reliable 3-point shooter who’s stroke is as repeatable when wide open, as it is when she has a hand in her face. All of these skills were front and center this past weekend, only increasing her popularity.

Looking back, it was quite likely that Carleton already had her mind pretty much made up with her decision even prior to attending the April viewing period event. She made the decision to attend the Ames, IA school from among her other front running contenders including Michigan State, Villanova and Nebraska.

After visiting the Iowa State campus and making a connection with the staff, she couldn’t imagine her collegiate life without wearing the Cardinal and Gold colours.

“I just knew it was the right fit for me as I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else,” said a versatile Carleton, who responded while taking time from attending her OFSAA (Ontario Provincial high school championships) Badminton competition.

“The coaches are amazing, they have the program I am interested in, the facilities are great, I think I will fit into their style of play and the game environment when I visited was unbelievable!”

Carleton brings with her a tremendous work ethic which only increases her potential for greatness at the next level. According to coach Jodi Gram, the Cyclones have a winner both on and off the court.

“She brings competitiveness, attention to detail, and a very high IQ to each and every training session and game. I respect how self-motivated she is, and you can see how well respected she is by her teammates,” said Gram who has coached her in various capacities over the past 4 years through her Team Ontario provincial summer team and representing her country on the Team Canada Cadette Team.

“More importantly, she has been a joy to get to know as a person. I have no doubt she will make a positive impact very quickly at Iowa State, and I look forward to continuing to work with her and watch her represent our country this summer.”

Carleton, who believe she will likely Major in Kinesiology when they time comes, intends on keeping her skills tight by playing with both the National Cadette Team and with Team Ontario again this summer.
