On June 24, 2015, the U16 Women’s Cadette team won their opening FIBA Americas game 85-43 over Cuba.

The game, that took place in Pubela, Mexico, saw Canada lead from wire to wire, lead by an 16 point performance by Alyssa Jerome who also added 8 rebounds and 6 assists in 21 minutes of action.

Excited about the victory, Canadian team Head Coach, Carly Clarke believes that the game was a good way to put the team on stage and test out some of the foundation of what her squad will be putting forth throughout the tournament.

“We put some great building blocks in place to continue to improve as the tournament goes on,” said Clarke via press release.

Those building blocks took a bit longer to to be planted than Coach Clarke likely would have anticipated, with her team not scoring until 6:17 of the first quarter. Yet, Canada remained unphased eventually taking 13-12, then 33-25 halftime leads respectively into the first and second quarter breaks.

Team Canada would replicate this slow start coming out of the locker room at halftime, our scoring their opponents 21-9 in the third frame and never looked back en route to the 85-43 win.
