On May 23, 2015, the Freshmen Team upended the Sophmore Team in the 2015 JUEL Prep All-Star game at Ryerson University in Toronto, ON.

The Freshmen, needed the calm shooting hand of Christina Morra from the Free Throw line with the game about to expire, in order to claim the victory.

In a game that had the best players from the JUEL Prep league, as selected by the Coaches, Ontario’s elite level talent was on display. The best in the league of those that are in the Classes of 2018 and 2019 were matched up against those in the Class of 2017, as the swan song to the season that ended two weeks previous.

After a slow start to the game, the Freshmen bolted out to a 10 point halftime lead that saw them 37-27 over their older foes. The lead was earned in large part to Christina Morra’s nine points in the quarter.

Not wanting to be denied, the 10th Graders held their opponents to just 8 points in the third quarter and held a 46-45 lead at the end of that period. Jama Bin-Edward and Hailey Brown each helped set the pace in that quarter for the Sophomores with 5 points each.

The see-saw battle in the fourth, rose as each team recognized time was more and more limited. Eventual All-Star Game MVP, Laeticia Amihere showed lots of promise in her drives to the hole scoring 6 points in the frame. And when she wasn’t scoring, good decision making to drive and dish created opportunities for her teammates.

Eventually, the Freshmen found themselves with the ball and down by 1 with 20 seconds remaining. Coming in from a timeout, the play they ran involved lots of ball movement as they worked themselves into a position to take the last shot.

The ball eventually found its way into the hands of Christina Morra, driving in from the foul line extended. Using her size to her advantage while driving she drew a shooting foul with .5 seconds remaining in the game. Morra cool and calmly drained both Free Throws with the game on the line, to give her team the 66-65 win.

Christina Morra ended up with 15 points, while Laeticia Amihere added 8 for the Freshmen. The Sophs’ leading scorers were Hailey Brown, who also scored 15 points and Alexis Kenyeres who added 10.
