Cornhuskers Land Ramacieri’s 2013 Commitment
“I decided to go to Nebraska because it was the best fit for me,” said Ramacieri when I met with her in person.
As a fluid Guard, Ramacieri a knack for being able to size up her opponents when choosing to initiate a quick first step to attack the basket, or get her feet set for a shot from distance where she is often successful. But, I learned that for her, its not just on her offense that she takes pride. She finds it also in being able to produce on both ends of the floor.
“The reason I feel I perform well defensively and offensively is because I hustle.”
She credits her Dawson College Blues Head Coach, Trevor Williams, with with guidance she’s needed to be able to play at a high level. She especially gives him credit for advice that any shooter should have in their back pocket when times get tough.
“I miss a shot I don’t really think about it, I just keep shooting,” she recalls of the advice her Coach gave her to get through those rough patches. “My Coach actually helped me a lot to stay in that mindset. Once I miss a shot I just keep taking another one and try to get on a roll. And if I don’t manage to get on a roll I just try to contribute in other areas like rebounding or defense.”
After helping to guide her Blues to a Quebec Provincial Championship and a Silver Medal finish at the CCAA National Championships last season, careful consideration about the decision of where she would play. Consideration had included thinking about the impact a change of country and culture would have on her. In the end, the lure of playing with the 2010 National Coach of the year and joining the BIG10 conference with Nebraska, turned out to be the best fit for her.
“I’m going somewhere that is out of my country, so I want to make sure that I like the people that are surrounding me. And, I want to make sure that where I am playing is also comfortable for me. I fit well with the coaches and other players. They play a similar set to what I play at Dawson, so because of that it was very easy for me to pick that school.”
Pursuing a Business major, the confident Montreal area player had a good summer with her team that played in showcases in Vermont and Philadelphia as well as good showing at the USJN in Washington D.C.
Ramacieri went on to say, “Some of the other schools that I had considered were UMass, St. Francis, Vermont, NJIT, St. Louis, but as the process continued I decided to pick Nebraska.”
