Emma Wolfram (’13) Commits to Gonzaga

Emma Wolfram (6’4″, PF, 2013) of Kamloops, BC will be playing in NCAA’s West Coast Conference in the Fall of 2013 after declaring her commitment to attend Gonzaga University to play for the Bulldogs.

When we profiled Wolfram back in June, we knew that she would turn a lot of heads based on her resume, the way she was playing and her size. She has the length, shooting touch, and knack for rebounding.  All of which didn’t disappoint as she added to her international experience this summer.

In August, she helped the Canadian Cadettes to their best ever showing, a Bronze Medal at the FIBA U17 Worlds. In that tournament, Wolfram averaged 7.8 Points per game.  While being relied upon to log heavy minutes, she had a 5 Block game against the Koreans and a monster 15 Point, 15 Rebound game in the crucial Bronze Medal match against the Japan.

Wolfram piqued the interest of NCAA schools by not only her style of play, but by not shying away from the fact that it was her prefenece to attend University States-side. After the long initial list of suitors were narrowed down, the choice became obvious rather quickly.

“My final 3 schools were Gonzaga, Colorado, and Oregon State. I visited Gonzaga and Colorado but did not visit Oregon State. After my 2 visits I knew what my decision was going to be,” said Wolfram. “I plan on studying [Kinetics] and all 3 schools offered strong academic programs in this area.”

Even though she wanted to play basketball in the NCAA, not venturing too far away was crucial to her deciding to attend the Spokane, Washington institution.

“Gonzaga is located closer to my home town and has a smaller campus population which really appealed to me.”

The Bulldogs’ style of play was not lost in her decision making. After deeply studying the ‘Zags’ style of play by watching many of their games and several of their practices, she felt very comfortable with Head Coach, Kelly Graves’ X’s and O’s.

“I like the style of basketball they play and how they utilize their post players. I feel I can continue to develop as a player in their system. I have a great connection with the coaches and players which makes me very excited about my choice.”

On the eve of the start of her high school season, Wolfram can now focus on her studies with this great weight now off her back. However, she can’t sit back on her laurels too much. She will be looked upon greatly to carry the torch and lead her South Kamloops Secondary Titans to a back-to-back, BC Girls AAA Provincial title.
