Shantz Commits To Gryphons

Mackeely Shantz (3-stars, 5’11”, G) of Plattsville, ON has committed to attend the University of Guelph, beginning in the Fall of 2019.

Shantz, who attended Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School, is the type of player that could be plugged into a number of positions, Point Guard, Guard or Wing, and flourish. She has a good feel for the game and was no stranger from being able to find different ways to score. Whether connecting from long range or slashing the defence, Shantz found success by having a good feel of when and of how best to do so. She could also contribute to the game with her length and long limbs in the rebounding and perimeter defending departments.

Shantz has been a perennial candidate for the JUEL rep league All-Star team while playing for the Tri-County Soldiers and was named the last season’s WCSSAA (Waterloo County Secondary School Athletic Association) league MVP. This season, her Crusaders are in the thick of the playoff battle, having won their first two play down games with another to come later on this week.

When Shantz shows up to the University of Guelph, she will be Majoring in Human Kinetics and should be able to make an immediate impact on the court for the Gryphons.
