Montmorency Win Gold Once Again

For the third straight year in a row, the Montmorency Nomades have won the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association National Championships after beating the Lethbridge Kodiaks by a score of 63-54 in yesterday’s Finals.

Nadege Pluvoise’s three 3-pointers in the third quarter, en route to her 15 points total, were key in the win for the Nomades. They outscored the Kodiaks 27-12 in the period coming out of halftime, as a crucial momentum shift for which they would hold on for the win.

The Nomades’ win, wasn’t without its struggles. They had to leverage a 3-pointer from Julie Brosseau with less than 3 seconds remaining in the first half in order to keep the game within 2 heading to the locker room. And, aside from a very strong third quarter, the Kodiaks didn’t allow the Nomades to outscore them.

But Montmorency took care of business, which undoubtedly meant the shutting down of Lethbridge’s Alicia Cameron. Cameron, named the CCAA’s most valuable player for her efforts this season, was held to 3-for-17 shooting, including 0-for-8 beyond the arc.

In the end, performances by tournament All-Stars by Pulvoise, Julie Brosseau (11 points) and playoff MVP, Gladys Hakizamana (17 points) were enough to earn the Nomades the CCAA Championship 3-peat.

The win further cements Montmorency’s dominance at the National level with this being their fourth win in five years, and seventh in the last 14 (2002, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015).
