On May 28, 2014, high schoolers Kia Nurse and Shay Colley were selected to tryout for the 2014 Canadian Senior Women’s National Team.

The tryouts are scheduled to start June 9, 2014 in Edmonton, AB and are slated to last over four days.

Nurse and Colley were invited to the team who is looking to have their rosters set in time for a training camp they look to hold from June 16-25. The camp will then transition into a three game series against the world’s seventh ranked Brazil National Women’s Team also taking place in Edmonton.

These preparations have the ultimate goal in mind: The 2014 FIBA World Championships for Women, hosted by Turkey from September 27 to October 5.

The team qualified for the tournament by finishing with a Silver Medal at the 2013 FIBA Americas tournament.

Nurse, a 2014 UCONN commit will be looking to make the team for a second time. The now 17 year old made headlines last year when she not only made the Senior women’s team but managed to put together some impressive games, including a 13-point , September 23, 2013 performance against Cuba.

Uncommitted Colley will be looking for her first selection to the Senior Team, but has plenty of National Team experience at the Cadette, Junior and 3×3 levels.  Despite the interest she has been receiving from the Senior Team, it is still unconfirmed whether Colley will pull the trigger on making a decision to start her post secondary education this Fall from the offers she has received so far, or return to high school for an optional fifth year.
