Saint-Jean Are Tops in Quebec

On March 5, 2023, the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Géants won the CÉGEP Division 1 Championships with a 70-54 win over the Dawson Blues.

Rosalie Mercille was a standout for the Géants to victory by scoring 20 points on 16 for 16 shooting from the Free Throw line. They also saw solid scoring contributions from Eve Achampone, with 13 points, Clara Bergeron who scored 12 and Kayla Couturier’s 10 points. St Jean also benefitted from Sophie-Ann Bouffard who led all players with 13 rebounds while contributing 9 points.

Despite a start that saw Dawson jump out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter, St Jean settled down and fought back for a slim 32-30 lead at half time. They continued pressing forward on the second half with the Géants outscoring their opponents by seven in each of the third and fourth quarters, en route to their first province of Quebec, Division 1 title.

The Blues were led in scoring by Marie-Denise Ntambue who scored 21 points, 9 rebounds by Sharmela Reid and 6 steals from Shaylan Greaves.

As a result of making it to these Finals, both teams qualify to participate in the 2023 CCAA National Championships, this year taking place March 15-18 in Hamilton, ON.
