Despite Setback, Tri-County Beats Transway 71-61
Erica McFadden scored 17 points in Tri-County Thunder’s 71-61 win over Hamilton Transway in both team’s JUEL regular season opener on January 21, 2012 in Brampton, ON.
McFadden stepped up into an increased role due to an injury sustained by the Thunder’s Katie Polischuck who ended up watching a good amount of the game from the sidelines. McFadden stepped up in a big way in the Second Quarter, dropping 12 points before the half, including two 3-pointers.
The Thunder’s Aprille Deus helped as well by creating opportunities with the way she played away from the ball and finding open space for quality chances for her team. In the Fourth Quarter, Deus stepped up with her offensive production as she nailed two 3-pointers of her own on the way to a 9 of her total of 13.
Hamilton Transway was led in scoring by Nicole DiDomenico (5’10”, G, 2013) who scored 12 and April Coyne 6’1″, F, 2012) who scored 9. Coyne, who will be reporting to Fairleigh Dickinson of the NCAA next school year, is continuing to show development in her game play in the paint where her post moves will need to be rock solid for her to be successful at the next level.
Although Transway suffered the loss in this game to start their season at 0-1, a positive they can take away is their discipline. They played relatively foul free basketball, only committing 4 fouls throughout the whole game.
Tri-County Thunder improved to 1-0, and face the Scarborough Blues in their next game.
