On February 16, 2012, Ajax, ON native, Kalisha Keane signed a contract with the San Antonio Silver Stars of the WNBA.

“I am very excited about signing.  Its been a dream of mine since I was young to play in the WNBA and this is a step close to realizing the dream,” Keane said.

Keane, was a top prospect when she graduated from High School back in 2007, from Canada Basketball’s National Elite Development Academy which was housed out of Westdale Secondary in Hamilton, ON.  She later moved on to a very successful career at Michigan State University which saw her start every game as a Freshman.  Keane would later go on to become an All-American and complete such acheivements as the first Spartan to be named Big Ten Player of the Year, and finish with school stats that saw her tied for the most games played (136), finish second in steals (259), and finish third in 3-point field goals made (183).

After graduating from Michigan State 2011, Keane went undrafted in the WNBA, but managed to land a spot with EuroLeague’s Gospic from Croatia.  In 14 games with Gospic, Keane is averaging 8.1 Points per game and 3.7 Rebounds per game.

Keane is appreciative of the opportunity she’s had in Europe, where there was no shortage of top quality players.

“Luckily for me I have been playing against a lot of WNBA competition in the EuroLeague this season on different teams.  I do expect the game to be different in the style of play being a bit more uptempo.”

Keane will be set to join a Silver Stars squad, which boasts the likes of 13 time WNBA All-Star, Becky Hammon, who has signed a multi-year contract extension.  Having the chance to play with her and the rest of the San Antonio team will be an opportunity she is very much anticipating.

“Becky is a world class athlete and such a great person.  I’m really looking forward to learning everything I can from her as well as the other players on the team with tons of experience.”

Keane will look to help the San Antonio Silver Stars improve on their last year’s record of 18-16, which saw them finish fourth in the WNBA’s Western Conference.
