Rachel Niles of Mississauga, ON has committed to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University in the Fall of 2018.

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to Fairleigh Dickinson”, said Niles via statement on her Twitter feed about making her decision to attend the NCAA’s Northeast Conference school, located in Teaneck, NJ.

“It has been a very long and hard journey, but I am thankful to say that I have decided which school I will be attending next year.”

Niles is an extremely hard worker that has proven to be willing to fight tooth and nail for whatever she can get. It is with that grit and determination that has helped her to overcome a size disadvantage, into earning her due respect with her style of play. As a Point Guard, Niles forces her opponents to play her straight up due to her shooting range. She has the ability to get hot beyond the arc so opponents cannot just sit back to try to cut the passing lanes. Niles has a good first step and a very good handle as a part of her tool kit. This is to go along with an offensive mindset that is going to take any opening within the flow of the game, and yet is willing to absorb contact on her way to the basket.

Niles has spent this Senior high school year, as her first at J. Addison School on their independent Prep school squad, playing for her Coach who also heads up her Advantage Titans U17 Rep team.

She is greatly appreciative of the help that he has provided her as the most recent step to the journey she has taken so far.

“Special thanks to Coach YC (Chris Francis) who has paved the way for my new journey. His perspective, mentorship and belief in me fuelled my drive to never give up.”

As Niles looked back on other aspects of her development, and the time spent in the organizations such as the Scarborough Blues, Canada Elite and A-Game. She also reminisced about some of the other Coaches she wanted to acknowledge as instrumental in getting her to this opportunity, such as Coach Anita, Coach Kipp, Coach Marlo, Coach Chris and Alicia Smalling, Yaw, Prince and Science.

Niles is currently in the middle of her JUEL rep season, which finishes in May.
