On December 1, 2011, Catherine Traer (6’1″, F, Louis Riel, 2012) announced that she has committed to Ottawa U for the upcoming 2012 season.

“I chose Ottawa U because I thought I could really fit in with the team and I also really like the coach Andy Sparks.  I also wanted to go somewhere competitive and where I could improve.”

The newest Ottawa Gee-Gee, who handles the ball well and does well with either her back to the basket or driving from the perimetter, made her announcement fresh on her return from last week’s Ontario HS (OFSAA) 3A Championships.  Her seventh ranked Louis Riel Rebelles were eliminated in the Consolation Semis, where she averaged 16ppg.

Traer, who was also apart of the National Champion Team Ontario U17 squad, chose to become a Gee-Gee after also considering to attend Windsor, Acadia and UBC.  But, being able to study in her mother tongue tipped the scales in her decision making.  “Ottawa U also gave me the option of studying in French which is my first language!”

Traer will be playing rep basketball this year with the Capitals’ JUEL team in preparation for her University career.
