Sydney Stewart Sets Sights On Sea-Hawks

On October 21, 2012, Sydney Stewart (5’8″, G, Oakridge, 2013) announced that she has committed to play at Memorial University in St John’s Newfoundland next Fall.

“After being down there for a one week visit to play with the team, I fell in love with my future teammates, the University and the city of St John’s,” said Stewart.

The future Memorial Sea-Hawk, loves to drive to the basket and often finds success getting to the rim. She will be a great compliment to a traditional, stay at home Point Guard as Stewart doesn’t shy away from offensive opportunities. On defense, Sea-Hawks fans can expect her to stick like glue to ball handlers forcing tough possessions, just as she did last season with the Blessed Sacrament JUEL rep team.

In the 2011-2012 season, the Sea-Hawks finished with 10-10 record, under Head Coach Doug Partridge in CIS’ Atlantic region. Looking to improve the team’s fortunes by bringing Stewart into the fold, Partridge’s pursuit to land the London, Ontario native had to outshine a number of other suitors.

“Coach Partridge helped me realize that MUN is the best choice for me. Even though I had other choices, I feel that this was the best choice for me.”

Still fresh off of making her decision, she is very anxious to get her University career started.

“I can’t wait to be an East Coaster! Go Sea-Hawks!”
