lauren-yearwoodLauren Yearwood (6’4″, P, Oak Bay) of Victoria, BC has given a verbal commitment to attend the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR in the Fall of 2015.

Yearwood’s long reach was likely an appealing factor for the Ducks, who will be acquiring a skilled Post that is a diligent rebounder and that is consistent in finishing around the basket from close range.

Yearwood’s decision will see her continuing her post secondary education, about 8 hours down the pacific coast from the Victoria, BC, Oak Bay high school where she currently attends. With the Oak Bay Breakers, Yearwood led her team to a 2013 BC AAA Silver Medal. Although her team fell short in the Championship Final game, Yearwood netted 20 points in the Finals against Brookswood, on her way to earning a First Team All-Star designation.

Last summer, Yearwood scored in double figures three times in five games while representing Canada at the FIBA Americas tournament in Mexico. Her 2013 event was capped off by her scoring 15 points and picking up 8 rebounds against the Americans in the final game, and picking up Silver with her Canadian Cadettes.

She is currently in the Czech Republic where she again on the Canadian Cadette team, this time in search of 2014 FIBA World Basketball Championship Gold beginning June 28, 2014.

Later on this summer, Yearwood is expected to play with Team BC this travel season.
