Canada Basketball Announces U17 Short List
Canada Basketball has announced their short list of players that have been invited to attend training camp as a part of final selection process and preparations for the 2018 U17 FIBA World Championships beginning July 21, 2018.
“Heading to a World Cup is always exciting but this group of staff and athletes only adds to that excitement,” said Head Coach, Jodi Gram via press release, about the championship event to take place in Minsk, Belarus later on this month.
Although fifteen players have been invited to the camp, the expectation is that number will be whittled down to about 12 or so by the time final cuts have been made.
“We have threats at every position in different ways, and a group that has shown commitment to investing in themselves away from camp to ultimately make the team better. Working with this age group and traveling internationally always proves to be an amazing growth opportunity,” continued Gram
Training camp is set to finish July 12, when they will be taking the final roster to Liepaja, Latvia for a tune up event that will see Canada play games against Latvia, China and the USA by July 16.
The team will team head to Minsk, for the FIBA Worlds for group play beginning July 21 against group foes Latvia, Angola and Australia prior to the July 25 Round of 16.
In qualifying for this event, Canada placed second last summer at the FIBA Americas championship, finishing with a Silver Medal.
