Cascades Secure Top-5 Player In Their Own Backyard

Deanna Tuchscherer (4-stars, 6’0″, F, GW Graham/BC United) of Chilliwack, BC has committed to play for USport’s University of the Fraser Valley next Fall.

Tuchscherer, who is a top-5 ranked player in the Class of 2019, is the type of player that can do many things very well ont he court. She is comfortable running the point, using her size and strength to create mismatches if matched with a smaller opponent, drive against slower big that get drawn to the perimeter and shoot the three against those that look to give her space in anticipation of those drives.

Her ability to think the game is an added touch, enabling her to be able to play multiple positions and getting a feel for when to take advantage of her wide skill set.

This decision essentially keeps Tuchscherer home, and playing for her father Al Tuchscherer, who has been coaching the UFV Cascades for over 15 years now.

Having earned a ton of exposure over the past couple of years playing much of her travel ball with BC United, and on the Canadian National Women’s U16 Team At FIBA America’s last year in Argentina, and again with the National U17 team this summer in Belarus, she had lots of options to consider in choosing where she would attend next year.

With the decision to attend Fraser Valley, she is ultimately making the decision to stay at home, but to also play for her father Al Tuchscherer, who has been coaching the UFV Cascades for over 15 years now.

In this her Senior high school year, Tuchscherer has some unfinished business to attend to, looking to avenge a tough loss in last year’s BC AA provincial high school finals. It was then that her GW Graham Grizzlies lost 73-67 in overtime of the championship game to the South Kamloops Titans, despite the standout’s 32 points, 15 rebound performance and First Team All-Star nod.
