Ryerson HC Carly Clarke Lands D1 Transfer Mariah Nunes
On January 18, 2013, Ryerson University announced that they have added NCAA Division 1 transfer, Mariah Nunes (5’10”, G) to their roster.
Nunes of Ajax, ON, had started her post secondary career in New Jersey at Fairleigh Dickinson University of the Northeastern Conference. She was also a product of the Advantage Basketball Club during her rep team playing days, and graduated from Bill Crothers Secondary School as one the Greater Toronto Area’s best in class, back in 2011.
The Ryerson Rams’ roster will immediately get a boost with the addition of Nunes, and Rams Head Coach, Carly Clarke, feels she is not only getting a well rounded athlete, but a well rounded student as well.
“She is a top level athlete and basketball player who will be able to provide a positive impact at both ends of the floor right away. Beyond her basketball skill, she is a tremendous student-athlete who fits very well into our team culture and values.”
Aside from the immediate chemistry she felt with being around the Rams team, the Criminal Justice Major had relied on familiarity as a main factor in her decision making to attend the downtown Toronto Institution to complete her University career.
“I chose Ryerson because I heard a lot of good things about the program, from the academic perspective in particular, but also surrounding Ryerson athletics and the coaching staff. Not only is it close to home but there are many familiar faces.”
