D1 Bound Nieuwenhuizen To Become An Eagle
On October 21, 2014, Michaela Nieuwenhuizen (6’3″, F, Peddie Prep, NJ, 2015) of made public her verbal commitment to the American University Eagles next Fall.
Nieuwenhuizen’s size was undoubtedly a key lure for the NCAA D1 school of the Patriot League. The 6’3″ Forward’s key contribution to her teams to this point has been on the block where she puts that size to use. She has also shown a willingness to extend her range if need be from the high post, and either be offensive minded or to be the hub of a passing plays.
The former London Rambler rep team player, will bring an abundance of experience to the Eagles. She has successfully played at a high level on several stages including the Canadian Nationals, where in 2012 she was named a 2nd Team All-Star, representing Team Ontario. The next summer, she played internationally, making the Canadian National Cadette team. Earlier this year, she received a MAPL All-Star honourable mention last school season with the Peddie Falcons in Hightston, NJ, and was named a pool All-Star at the USJN showcase in Washington, DC this past summer when she played with Blue Star Ontario 17U.
Originally attending Strathroy D.C.I., in her home town for her first two years of high school, Nieuwenhuizen is looking forward to the start of her second season with the Peddie HS in New Jersey, which starts in about a months time.
