Fearon To Join Ravens in 2018
Sydney Fearon (6’0”, F, St Joseph’s/LFB) on Toronto, ON has committed to attend Carlton University this Fall.
“I’m really looking forward to this new opportunity”, said Fearon.
In joining the defending National U Sports Champion Carleton Ravens, Fearon brings her own history of success on the court. She is a four-time city champion at the high school level with the St Joseph Bears including once at the junior level. With the Bears at the Senior Level, she also earned a provincial Silver Medal in 2016, and helped them improve on that in 2017 with a Gold Medal win. At the rep level with her Scarborough Blues team, she helped her team to an Ontario Basketball Division 1 win at the U16 level in 2015 and a JUEL championship win in 2017, before making the switch to play with the LFB squad she currently trains with.
Fearon works best from the short corner, on out where can hit open shots from there and even beyond the 3-point line. She is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and channels much of that mental toughness into her basketball game, by not getting rattled easily and maintaining focus regardless of the situation. On the defensive end, Fearon can block shots and rely on her strength and toughness in a variety of instances.
Besides the success that Fearon has been having on the court, she is also finding success in the classroom. At St Joes, she’s been an honour Roll student, with grades averaging in the mid-eighties as a Specialized High Skills Major in Sports. At Carleton, she’ll pursue a BA Honours in Sociology (major) and Human Rights & Social Justice (minor).
All of this ties into the reason why she thought Carleton would be a good fit for her.
“I chose the school because of the program. I really liked the school before athletics. The coaches there were not just passionate about play on the court, but for the school work. Also, they had co-op for my program and most other schools didn’t.”
Another key reason that joining the Ravens would be a good fit, was because the setting of the school suited Fearon just right.
“I liked campus and the fact that it was not too much of a big city but also was not too rural either.”
Fearon acknowledged the following Coaches as those that made big contributions to her development.
“Coach Scotty and Coach Chris at A-Game, Coach Isaac King at LFB, Coach Brian with the Blues and Coach Francesco at St Joes.”
