Nurse, Grant-Allen, Cooper and Colley Named To 3×3 Nat’l Team
On September 19, 2012, Canada Basketball announced their roster that will be representing the Country at the FIBA U18 3×3 World Championships taking place September 28-30, 2012 in Alcobendas, Spain.
The announced team includes: Kia Nurse (6’0″, G, 2014), Saicha Grant-Allen (6’4″, F, 2013), Sam Cooper (6’2″, G/F, 2013), Shay Colley (5’8″, G, 2014).
All four team members are coming off of busy summers that for each, concluded less than a month ago, in stints that also represented Canada. Cooper was a major contributor to the Canadian FIBA Americas U19 Junior Women’s Fourth-place finish in Puerto Rico while Nurse, Grant-Allen and Colley each helped Canada attain their best finish ever, a Bronze, at the FIBA World U18 Cadette Women’s Championships in Holland.
The 3×3 team, that will be Coached by Denise Dignard, will find themselves in Group C, along with Australia, England, Israel, Romania and Tunisia. The opening round will see them play five, 10 minute, half-court games in little over a 24 hour period, starting things off against the Romanians.
At this age group in this event, the country’s best finish in this event was Fourth, back in the event’s inaugural showcase in 2010.
