FIBA 2011 Youth World 3-On-3 Roster Announced
On August 24, 2011, the rosters for the Women’s 3-on-3 FIBA Youth World Championships was announced. The selected team is made up of 4 players including two players that competed internationally for Canada this summer in the U19 FIBA World Championships in Paige Crozon (6’1″, F, Humboldt, 2012) and Isidora Purkovic (5’11”, G, Western Canada, 2012) where they tasted success to the tune of a 5 place overall finish. They will be joined by U17 Team Ontario National Champions Dakota Whyte (5’8″, PG, Notre Dame, 2012) and Taijah Campbell (6’2″, F, Pickering, 2012) who swept through the National Championship earlier this month by winning every game.
This Under 18 event take place in Rimini, Italy from September 9-11 and will feature 16 teams representing various countries as well as a male competition. It coincides with celebrations underway by the Italian Basketball Federation’s 90th anniversary.
With this event, FIBA will continue their push to have this aspect of basketball included as an official Olympic event in the future, the same as it was for the Youth Olympics Games in Singapore last year. This game features solely the use of half of the court in two 5 minute periods or 33 points scored, which ever comes first and a 10 second shot clock. The Canadian team finished just out of the medals in the summer of 2010’s Youth Olympics, loosing in the Bronze medal game to the Americans in the event geared towards those aged 14-18.
