Nicolle Gaudet Scores 11 In Impact’s Win Over Transway

On January 22, 2012, the Kingston Impact defeated Hamilton Transway by a score of 48-42, in regular season JUEL action.

Kingston was led in scoring with 11 points from Nicolle Gaudet (5’11”, F, 2013) and 10 points from both Sarah Besselink (5’10”, F, 2012) and Amy Cotton (5’11”, F 2013).

Transway responded with 11 points from Emily Wilk (5’8″, G, 2013) and 9 from Nicole DiDomenico (5’10”, G, 2013).

The Impact started off the game on a 8-2 run efficiently making the most of their opportunities. It was a sign of things to come throughout the game that saw the far smaller and younger Kingston team distribute the ball well and shoot effectively from outside the paint. Besselink, even at 5’10”, showed she has craftiness to be able to score the ball in the paint throughout this game and that she is able to connect from 10 feet out. Her teammate, Nicole Gaudet, showed even more range connecting a 3-pointer in the Second Quarter before a 29-20, Kingston Impact First Half lead.

Transway was unable to convert the size advantage of their starting Forwards, as the Impact managed to get them to Turn Over the ball numerous times in the key. Although not starting, DiDomenico was a solid option coming off the bench for her Hamilton team. She may not be overwhelming athletically, but she makes solid decisions with the way she safely distributes the ball and has a nice shooters touch from long distance. Despite only scoring 4 points in this contest, starter Emily Hanaka (5’8″, G, 2012) also caught my eye with her hustle plays, including diving for loose balls in the attempt to keep her team within striking distance.

The win improves the Kingston Impact to 2-0 in regular season JUEL action, while Transway fell to 0-2.
