Nirra Fields Leads All Scorers in Girls’ McDonald’s All American Game

On March 28, 2012, Nirra Fields (5’10”, G, Mater Dei, 2012) scored 20 points in the McDonald’s All American Game. She was the game’s leading scorer and the first ever Canadian girl to play in the 11th game of the annual prestigious girls’ event.

The performance which included her shooting 9 for 11 from the field, grabbing 3 rebounds and adding a steal, was a very solid showing for Fields who is a native of Lachine, a suburb of Montreal, Quebec.

Despite her effort, Fields’ West squad fell 79-78 on a last second foul shot made by Team East’s Bashaara Greaves.

The McDonald’s All-American Game took place in Chicago’s United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls.  Each game features 24 of the best High School players that attend school in the United States, and was nationally televised across the ESPN network.

The milestone is just another in a long list of accomplishments she has made this school year:

• On March 24, 2012, her and the Mater Dei Monarchs (30-3) won their third straight California State title with a 57-40 victory over Berkeley. Fields scored 24 points in that Final and added 6 assists and averaged 21.4 Points, 7.2 Rebounds and 4 Steals throughout the season.
• On March 8, 2012, Fields was named the coveted Gatorade State player of the year in California.
• In November 2011, she committed to become a UCLA Bruin for the Fall of 2012.

Last school season, Fields was able to average 26.5 points per game when she attended Oak Hill Academy.  Other accomplishments on her basketball resume includes being a member of Canada’s U16, U17 and U19 teams.
