Canadian Development Team Adds Trio of 2017s To Roster

On June 15, 2016, Tamara Farquhar, Maurane Corbin and Mael Gilles all of the Class of 2017, have each been named to the 2016 Canadian National Women’s Development Team.

Them and the rest of the squad, made up of university students, will be headed to Prague of the Czech Republic, where they will play 5 exhibition games, beginning on June 20.

The Canadian team will play the Czech Republic twice, Japan, Slovakia and a U20 Czech team, before departing after their June 25 game.

“Our development program is a key component of our building and maintaining our Gold Medal Profile and continued sustainability of national team athletes,” said Denise Dignard, director, women’s high performance via press release.  “We have a great group of  talented players who are committed to representing Canada.”

In 2015, the Development team placed a best ever 2nd at the FISU World University Games in South Korea, winning a silver medal and claiming the best ever finish for Canada at the Games.
